"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." - Helen Keller

Lygia Cabanas
I am an immigrant, educator, and integrative psychotherapist, with a focus on Narrative Therapy.
In our sessions, we’ll, together, explore and reframe narratives, questioning patterns and beliefs, and fostering awareness of strengths and outcomes that may have gone unrecognized.
My approach is grounded in understanding both personal meaning and socially shared meanings (such as those shaped by culture, family, or religion), considering personal experiences and external factors that influence well-being. It resonates with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including those navigating multicultural identities, such as immigrants.
I work with individuals facing mental health challenges, relationship issues, life transitions, or those seeking therapy for self-care and personal growth. I offer online therapy in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and provide trauma-informed psychoeducation, specializing in anxiety, PTSD, and sexual health.
My Story
Originally from Brazil, I moved to Mexico in 2016, where I completed the second part of my psychology degree. My immigration journey and experience as a multilingual teacher drew me to a practice focused on how we narrate our lives, shaped by culture, community, and past experiences.
I have specialized education in Community Psychology, Narrative Therapy, Psychoeducation, and Racially Informed Approaches, along with Trauma/Diversity-informed courses in Sexology. I pursued a specialization in "Epistemologies of the South," alongside other courses that shape my integrative practice.
Since 2020, I have primarily worked with individuals from cultures and mother languages different from my own. Over the course of my relocations, I’ve lived in Brazil, Mexico, the US, Hungary, Turkey, Guatemala, Colombia, Sri Lanka, and now reside in France.
